0 Pearl Harbor Day

Thursday, December 09, 2010 Label:

It was the day of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and a day that changed the world forever. Just before 8a.m. that morning, a group of Japanese planes approached the unsuspecting naval base. They arrived without warning, and without a formal declaration of war.

As the planes coasted over the American base, they unleashed a fury of firepower that quickly sank half of the battleships stationed at Pearl Harbor. The assault was brief, but highly effective. Japanese Zero Bomber Planes were lightning fast and heavily armed.

America lost more than 2,000 people to the brutal attack. Over 1,200 more were injured. The assault consisted of two separate groups of Japanese bombers that damaged or destroyed a large number of American ships, planes and equipment.

0 Do it Right the First Time

Monday, April 05, 2010 Label:

The old saying asks "If you don't have time to do it right the first time, when will you ever have time to do it right?" Politicians keep saying that it is crucial that we get some kind of healthcare reform passed this year. After all we'll be able to fix it later.
That approach has led to most of the current problems in many areas. By not developing a comprehensive and complete bailout plan before implementing it, banks have been able to thwart many of the original intentions of the bill. Once the money was delivered, we have found it hard to correct the problems that resulted.

0 The Maoists and the Indian State

Thursday, March 25, 2010 Label:

In 1947 when India was given freedom by the British it was thought a new dawn of development and prosperity would be launched. However Nehru with his zeal to copy the British carried on the age old British policies as far as the tribal lands were concerned.
The British who were the paramount power and wished to further their rule had no interest in integrating the tribal areas with the rest of India. Thus they formulated policies where the tribals were left to themselves with only a loose form of government control. So much so that to visit the tribal areas of Assam and Nagaland an inner line permit was required. They effectively insulated the tribal areas from the rest of the country.
The Indian Government under Nehru continued with these British policies even after 1947 when independence was granted. Thus the inner line permits remained and very little effort was made to integrate these areas with the mother country. It did not help as racially these tribals were not from the main Arayan or Dravidian stock.
