Republic Day Of India – A Day That Rekindles Patriotism And Humanity

Friday, January 01, 2010 Label:

Although India gained its independence in the year 1947, it did not have a permanent constitution and was devoid of political powers and authorities. Later on, the Drafting Committee was appointed to draft a permanent constitution for India under the chairmanship of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. On November 4, 1947, the drafted document was submitted and after many debates, negotiations, and modifications the document was approved and signed by all the members of the Assembly on January 24, 1950. Two days after that on January 26, 1950, the constitution of India came into effect. Eventually, the political powers were taken away from the British and India became a ‘Republic’.

Every year the day is celebrated most magnificently in the capital State of India, New Delhi. The main feature of the Republic Day is a grand and royal parade that showcases the military powers and cultural wealth of the country along with the patriotic fervor of the Indian citizens. This impressive parade commences from Raisina Hill situated near the Rashtrapati Bhavan and ends at Red Fort passing through Rajpath and India Gate.

The parade halts at India Gate where the main celebration occurs. It starts with the march past followed by a vibrant displays, floats, and cultural extravaganza from various states and regions of the nation. Many schools and public institutes also participate in the parade and show their unique performances. A spectacular fly-past by Indian Air Force and Naval aircraft rounds off this majestic celebration.

Today, happily we all are enjoying the freedom of living in an independent and republic nation. This happiness that we enjoy today is credited to those martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of nation’s independence. A peep into the past will make our hearts heavy and eyes filled with tears. Think of legendary leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Rani Lakshmi Bai, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Dr Rajendra Prasad, who spilled their blood to spread a red carpet for us, a carpet on which we all are freely paving our own paths to our own dreams. Apart from these there are many brave soldiers whose names also we don’t know but even they too have contributed significantly in the fight for independence. Just think how many mothers lost their son, how many sisters lost their brother, and how many women lost their husbands. Have we a count of all these? No, we don’t. All we know is today we all are living with our families in the ‘Free India’ these martyrs have gifted us. The very thought of their sacrifice rekindles patriotism, humanity, love, and brotherhood on this auspicious day of India becoming a ‘Republic’.

Every year on 26th January, Indian citizens arrests their regional identity and put their differences in the backseat. The day just takes a new dawn with the bright appeal of unity, brotherhood, and love. On the day, there is no Hindu, no Muslim, and no Sikh; there is only one caste, one religion, and that is ‘Indian’. Together, they all salute the Indian Flag and pay tribute to the martyrs.

On January 26, 2010, we complete 60 years of India becoming a republic. It’s a long way we have come from blood sheds to a red carpet. Let’s all join our hands and pray for all those wise souls who sacrificed their lives and blessed us with the ‘Republic India’.
